This followed the closure of the road since July 2014 when the boko haram terrorists wrecked havoc and captured the town of Damboa leading to the killing of 7 policemen, 16 soldiers including their Commanding officer and the destruction of military base and the Divisional Police Headquarters.
The clash according to reliable sources occurred at the week end when some military personnel attached to 7 Division, Nigerian Army were on their way to Damboa, the headquarters of Damboa local government area of Borno state.

This attack is coming barely 48 hours when some military troops succeeded in killing 75 insurgents in a failed attempt to attack engineers and electricians who were repairing the vandalized transmission lines by terrorists, in a remote village of Kowaimaila along the 185km Maiduguri- Damboa- Biu road since July this year and the latest killing of over 110 terrorists who attacked Damboa at the weekend.
The electricity problem had affected socio economic activities of the whole Maiduguri and its environs have remained in a total blackout following the vandalized power lines and this was the third attempt by security forces and the staff of PHCN to restore power to the city of Maiduguri but to no avail.
The source added “military personnel were on their way to Damboa to give security cover to the staff of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) who were in Damboa to repair some destroyed electric cables along Maiduguri-Damboa road but they were ambushed by insurgents living two soldiers dead and over 80 terrorists dead over the week end.

A security source who does not want his name in print told our correspondent that “as the military troops were moving towards Damboa, one Boko Haram terrorist suddenly appeared to them on the road with a female by his side both with AK47 rifles and they were all cleared by troops, however, unknown to the troops, many of the terrorists were hidden by the road side.
“As the troops approaches, the insurgents shot a Rocket propelled Grenade (RPG) on one of the troops vehicles killing two soldiers”. the sourced stated.
He said ? the troops immediately responded and engaged the terrorists in gun battle, and when they realized that they were overwhelmed by the troops, the terrorists started running into the bush before they were pursued by the troops who killed almost all of them.?

The source further said that he personally counted 80 corpses of the insurgents, while 3 Hilux Vehicles mounted with Anti Aircraft Gun with another one loaded with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) belonging the to Yobe state government suspected to have been snatched in the recent attack on Damaturu were destroyed along side many motorcycles by troops.
? I believe the attack were coordinated ones, as it was just some minutes after they attempted to attack Damboa, may be they stationed these insurgents in order to ambush and stop any re-enforcement coming from Maiduguri”. He explained.
He called on the Federal Government and the military authorities to give order to clear the Alagarno village and its environs, as they have made the village as the base and hideouts of insurgents.
