A total of 652 people were injured during the October 2014 popular uprising and 271 were injured during the failed coup that was organized by former army chief during Compaore’s regime, General Gilbert Diendere.

The government has already committed to build houses for eight widows and recruit three others who have degrees in the public service.

Each of the 18 widows of the victims of these events will receive a financial assistance of 1 million CFA Francs to start businesses.

The government further committed to educate children of each of the victims in a public school by providing 75,000 CFA Francs per child, or 300,000 CFA Francs for each child undergoing professional training.

Notwithstanding a precarious political situation, characterized by disputes and a failed coup, the transition government succeeded in organizing “free and fair” elections on Nov. 29 which were won by former Prime Minister during Compaore’s reign, Roch Marc Christian Kabore. Enditem
