An eight-month pregnant woman, Gladys Kuma, alias Kokor has been burnt to death by her husband in their room at Oda cottage, near Sankore in the Asunafo South District of Brong-Ahafo Region.

Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer confirmed to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday that Azuma Komla, aged 30, husband of deceased vanished after the act but investigation led to his arrest and now in Police custody in Sunyani.

He said on Sunday, March 25, 2018 an unknown person reported the incident to the Sankore Police that he heard the deceased shouting for help in a flame of fire in her room.

Chief Inspector Oppong said Police immediately rushed to the scene but met deceased in the flame almost burnt to ashes with the head of the unborn baby lying on the floor.

He said Police combed the whole area, but did not find suspect, adding that the Police rather came across two children of the deceased, aged six and four hidden in a nearby bush.

Chief Inspector Oppong said the children disclosed to the Police that their father poured petrol on their mother and set fire on her in their room but they managed to escape.

He said on Wednesday, April 04, 2018, with the assistance of the community members, Police had information about suspect’s whereabouts and proceeded to arrest him.

Suspect would soon be arraigned before Court on a charge of murder, Chief Inspector Oppong affirmed.
