Six persons died, and five others were in critical condition in a road accident here on Boxing Day (Thursday), police have confirmed.

The road crash occurred at Konongo, a community near Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city, 280 kilometers north of the capital.

The officer in charge of the police motor traffic and transport department (MTTD) in Konongo Stephen Yeboah told local media that the crash involved one VVIP branded bus and another bus branded OA.

Both VVIP and OA are popular Ghanaian private transport companies with fleets of buses plying major routes in the country.

Yeboah said 47 other injured persons had been referred to the Konongo Government Hospital and Steward Hospital.

The Thursday crash came just a day after five people died on Christmas day (Wednesday) in another road accident at Mankuma, a community near Damongo, the capital of the newly created Savannah Region, which was carved from the Northern Region.

Dozens of other victims in the Christmas day accident, who were in critical condition, were rushed to the Bole District Hospital. Enditem
