Five people have been killed in a midnight attack carried out by gunmen on Gwarim village in Rim District of the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State yesterday. The attack was alleged to have been carried out by
Fulani herdsmen.

In a related development, one person was killed and many others injured in an explosion that rocked a commercial football-viewing centre at Tudunwada area, Jos North Local Government Area of the state, during the European Championship League on Tuesday night.

There are conflicting stories from security agencies on how the victims died and the others that sustained injuries.
Special Task Force (STF), on Jos crisis, in a press release signed by its Media Officer, Capt. Mdahyelya Markus confirmed that one person died and three wounded in the incident, which occurred at the time youths were coming out of the viewing center, after watching the match between Chelsea FC and Barcelona. He said the death and injuries occurred as a result of stampede, not the blast.

He said in the statement that: “Three youths sustained injuries in a reprisal attack, when the youth attempted to barricade the road by Tudunwada Motor Park, but they were dispersed by the troops of STF. However, an unidentified person was later found dead with a deep cut on his stomach.” The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ayeni who briefed journalists on the issue said the victim of the explosion died at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, while nine others sustained injuries. He said four are in critical condition and are being treated at the same hospital.

The police statement said the police Anti-Bomb disposal unit immediately visited the scene, to collect evidential materials for analysis. Meanwhile, normal activities have since resumed, with people trooping to the affected area to catch a glimpse.
While the security agents were still battling to unravel those behind the act, another attack was carried out in Gwarim village in Rim District of Riyom Local Government Area, claiming five lives with two teenagers inflicted with Machetes cuts. They are currently receiving treatment at Vom Christian Hospital.

Member Representing Riyom Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Mr. Daniel Dem, who confirmed the incident gave names of the deceased as Dinnatu Danbwarang (48), Simi Joseph (26), Rose Dalyop (25), Jafates Samuel (four), and Christiana Samuel (seven). He said the dastardly act occurred, while the victims were sleeping. Dem, who spoke in tears described the attack as coward.

He however, appealed to people in the area to remain calm and not take laws into their hands as appropriate measures are been taking to bring to an end, the senseless killings.
