This year’s summit provided unprecedented platform for regulatory bodies in Africa to take ICT bilateral partnership to the next level.
More so, a platform was created to enable the participants to deliberate on impact technology innovation and rightful policies that can drive ICT penetration in Africa.
There was a Cyber Security Forum which discussed the ever-growing danger of cyber security and its implications in a modern world.
Since Cyber security has become a threat to achieving full scale digital economy. As
the session also look at the benefits of having a formidable system in place to check cyber security as well as challenges organisations are likely to face.
The Deputy Minister of Communication,Hon .Nenyi George Andah, speaking at the summit , disclosed that government has put a holistic National Cyber Security Policy and strategy document in place that will ensure the safety of digital services. “As we increase the use of Digital services we need to protect our critical IT infrastructure”, he stated.
According to him, the strategy will provide leadership in the against cyber security awareness within the public and private sectors.
This he said, in order increase accessibility affordability of broadband services, the Ministry is looking at revising the existing Telecom policy with a view to introducing a new document.
This will give direction to the regulator, the National Communications Authority to roll out plans to improve broadband access and services in line with the digitisation of plans producing an eGovernment strategy paper to guide government’s approach to the digitisation and eService delivery.
Adding that, some of these planned projects will be delivered and championed by the National Information Technology Agency(NITA).
“I will like to state here and stress the point that NITA by legal mandate has to be noticed by all government Ministries, Department and Agencies(MDAs) of all ICT projects”, he added.
This he said, MDAs should do so at the planning stage , in order to allow NITA to provide timely and relevant support , direction and coordination as their role demands and because they have oversight responsibility for all government IT projects. He frowned the manner in which some MDAs are flouting the laws of the land regarding the issue.
“This year’s summit is focusing on promoting Africa’s Digital Economy and will highlight the constraints and opportunities in the expensive ICT sector across Africa, and I am excited that your focus is perfect fit to the vision of HE President Akufo-Addo,” he emphasized.
The Summit will also run alongside the 7th Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards as well as the 2nd Africa Information Technology and Awards.
Already, nominees for the 7th Ghana Information Technology & Telecom Awards has been announced following a rigorous process to ensure all players in the ICT ecosystem is represented. The award is scheduled to hold on the 15th of July at the Kempinski hotel.

According to Naphtal,“The 7th GITTA is special as it will celebrate and commensurate Ghana at 60 celebrations by also unveiling Ghana 25 ICT leaders,” he said.
The nominations were officially unveiled to the media after the Board of Trustees of the awards hadreviewed all entries and conducted their own research into entries submitted by companies.
The nominees include categories for banks and special recognition awards for individuals and organizations.
