Radisson-Blu-Resort-HotelOver 400 members of the Radison Blu Hotel staff, were Tuesday sacked by the Chairman of the Hotel, Oba Otudeko following their agitation to join the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
According to the spokesperson of the sacked hotel staff, Abe Makojuola Daramola, a House Keeping Supervisor, trouble started last week, when they mooted the idea of joining the Labour Unions to management which they objected to.
Daramola stated that members of staff however went ahead to invite officials of TUC and NLC to be in Lagos yesterday (Tuesday) to inaugurate them into the Unions.
Their plans however was disrupted by the management who the sacked staff alleged working on the orders of Otudeko, called in a technician to tamper with the power generators?on Monday?night, plunging the entire hotel into darkness.
Following the power disruption,?Daily Times?learnt that guests staying at the hotel were checked into other hotels, thereby paving the way for the over 400 members of staff to be issued termination letters, while the hotel premises was locked up and all activities suspended spontaneously.
By yesterday morning the aggrieved staff members had gathered at the entrance of the hotel at Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, bearing placards to protest their ill treatment at the hands of Oba Otudeko because of their intention to become members of Labour Unions.
