Women in the region are faced with cultural, religious, social, economic and other challenges, which impede them from participation actively in elections.

It takes a daring woman to contest elections, hence the poor showing.

For instance, only one woman is contesting the election as against 102 men contestants in the Wa Municipality.

The Wa West District registered four women contestants and 70 men, while two women and 69 men filed to contest the election at Wa East District.

Statistics provided to Ghana News Agency by Mr Ali Dauda, Deputy Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, revealed that two women are contesting against 88 men at Nadowli-Kaleo District and one against 44 men at Daffiama-Bussie-Issa.

The Jirapa District has seven women and 78 men contestants while three women and 47 men filed to contest the election at Lambussie-Karni District.

Five women and 60 men had filed to contest the election at Nandom District, Sissala West, three women against 49 men and Sissala East District, three women against 51 men.
