The State Chairman of National Union of Teachers NUT Borno State Comrade Bulama Abiso has disclosed that no fewer than 34,000 teachers are currently displaced across borno state as a result of Boko Haram insurgency.
The chairman stated this during the distribution of relief material to 70 families of slain teachers in Maiduguri yesterday Wednesday.

He added that the Union has successfully registered 36,000 members in the state but about 34,000 teachers are currently displaced while many of them are taking refuge in various camps in the state capital Maiduguri.
According to him, no fewer than 360 teachers were killed in separate attacks across the 27 local government areas of the state in the last four years.

He said that the relief materials was donated by the Union in collaboration with its counterparts from the 19 Northern states across the country.

Abiso explained further that the gesture was necessary to caution the hardship of families of its members who lost their lives while imparting knowledge to pupils and students.

The chairman also disclosed that the education sector of the state was one of the worst affected sector by the boko haram insurgency, pointing out that so many teachers were killed in class while imparting knowledge to their children.

“We therefore appeal to the federal government and the security agencies to intensify efforts to end this insurgency”.

The chairman however called on the federal and state government, Non Government Organisation and well meaning Nigerians to extend their hands of fellowship or assistance to the teachers in the state.
