More than 300 squatters at Frafra Zongo a slum community within the Suame Magazine industrial area in the Kumasi metropolis have been rendered homeless after fire razed down their makeshift structures Wednesday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is immediately not known but the displaced persons suspect electrical fault.

The fire outbreak which started after midday destroyed over 100 wooden structures housing the occupants mostly settlers of northern extraction giving fire fighters a hectic time to douse the inferno which seems to an annual ritual.

The fire personal describe lack of access route to the fire scene as one major challenge they encountered in fighting the fire from escalating to other adjoining structures.

Ultimate news’ Isaac Bediako reported that the artisans are urging government to bring back the fire station which was relocated from the area to Breman.
