A 29-year-old man is hospitalized under arrest after allegedly plowing his Nissan Versa into a crowd outside The Vermont nightclub in East Hollywood early Saturday morning.
The 1:30 a.m. attack left seven victims in critical condition and six others seriously injured, with women comprising most casualties among clubgoers and taco stand patrons.
Preliminary LAPD reports indicate Fernando Ramirez had been ejected from the venue shortly before the incident. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as bystanders dragged the suspect from his vehicle and assaulted him before an unidentified shooter wounded Ramirez and fled. Mayor Karen Bass condemned the violence as investigators work to determine whether the crash represented targeted retaliation or random aggression.
The collision marks Los Angeles’ third major vehicular assault this year, raising fresh concerns about public safety at nightlife hubs. Police are reviewing surveillance footage while hospital staff treat victims for traumatic injuries ranging from broken bones to internal bleeding.
