This year’s Ga Homowo Festival would be rounded up with a two-day Beach Soccer Tournament at the Laboma Beach Resort at La, in Accra on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the organisers, Beach Sports Consult (BSC), teams representing the coastal communities of Ada, Tema, Nungua, Teshie, La, Osu, James Town / Chorkor and Dansoman have been invited to participate.

Sammy Heywood Okine, Media Manager of BSC said special beach soccer balls have been ordered from Europe for the tournament and they are constructing goal posts for the event which has been planned to get beach soccer players active, and also keep the game alive.

He hinted that medals and other awards would be given to players and officials who do well.

He appealed to companies who appreciate Ghana’s tourism to support the tournament. He prayed that companies like MTN, Promasidor, Pepsi, La Palm Beach Hotel, Goil Ghana, and Mawako Foods are going to support the tournament.

Sackey Narh, one of the event organisers said the beach has large space for advertising and called on corporate bodies in the Greater Accra region to support the programme which is also aimed at educating people to keep the environment, especially the beaches clean.

Great Jonny, a keen beach soccer enthusiast and coach of Gulf Powers Club said the Homowo Beach Soccer Tournament is a welcome venture to add to the events on the beach sports calendar and also called on Ghanaians, especially people living in Accra to keep the capital clean. He noted that the beach is a treasure land for sports and leisure activities, and so should be kept tidy always.

Teshie are the defending champions of the Homowo Beach Soccer Cup.

The 2019 Homowo Beach Soccer Tournament is supported by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Coastal Development Authority (CDA), and several media partners.
