Festivals are platforms for the expression of cultural values as well as the exhibition of economic and tourism potentials of the communities spearheading the celebrations, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and the Creative Arts, has stated.

Hon. Gomashie, who made the observation at the launch of this year?s Asogli State Yam Festival (ASYF) in Accra, urged all citizens of the Volta region to bring their resources, both material and human, to the festival, where development and progress would be the agenda.

The Deputy Minister pledged support to the ASYF, adding that through its agencies, district and Municipal Assemblies, the Ministry would maximize the tourism, culture and creative arts potentials in the regions.

Welcoming participants to the launch, Brigadier-General Martin Ahiaglo (Rtd.), Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, said ASYF was a festival with a unique history and display of cultural artefacts, and provided an opportunity for experiencing traditional music, dance and storytelling.

Brigadier-General Ahiaglo (Rtd.) said ASYF was brought back to life in 2004 by Togbe Afede XIV, jointly with other paramount chiefs in 2004, after it was abandoned for more than ten years.

He said ASYF 2015 had been redesigned as a purely tourism and marketing event by Premier Events and Promotions.

ASYF 2015, to be climaxed with a grand durbar, will be organized on the theme ? All Hands on Deck Harnessing the Full Potential of the Asogli State for accelerated Development?.
