At least 20 suspected cultists involved in supremacy battles in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, have been arrested, an official said Monday.

The gangs had been fighting among themselves since Saturday in Ijora, a settlement in Lagos, state police spokesperson Chike Oti told Xinhua.

He did not mention the names of the rival cult groups, but said no death was recorded so far in the clashes.

More policemen have been deployed in the area to restore normalcy, the spokesman said.

The cultists had been exchanging gunfire since Saturday evening in Ijora, where alleged members of Boko Haram were arrested in 2013 and 2016 respectively.

The area is one of Lagos’ under-serviced but high density areas.

The shooting continued into Sunday morning before more policemen were brought in. Enditem
