Sierra Leone’s Director of Media and External Relations of the National Electoral Commission(NEC) of Sierra Leone, Albert Massaquoi, said Monday that 16 political parties have declared interest to contest in the March 7 elections.

Eleven parties participated in the 2012 elections and the number has increased with a series of coalition established with the intention to oust the ruling All Peoples Congress Party (APC) from power.

Among the parties to participate in the 2018 elections are the two main political parties: the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) headed by retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, and the ruling APC headed by Samura Kamara.

Others include the National Grand Coalition (NGC) headed by former UN diplomat Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella and the Coalition 4 Change (C4C) headed by former vice president Samuel Sam Sumana. Enditem
